I think that the author is saying there that we should enjoy life and live life because no one truly knows how long they have. I think he is also saying that everyone goes through the same things regardless of whether or not they follow God, it's how they handle those things that matter.
We should sing songs to the Lord...I think that is what it's trying to say.

I think your synopsis is accurate. We all have the same end no matter how we live life.
This psalm confused me a little. Starts out talking about singing songs to the Lord, but at the end it speaks of infants being dashed against rocks which sounds awful. Like they are captive but while their captors are doing bad things to them they want them to sing songs of the Lord.
