Day 376 - Jeremiah 1 & Psalm 4

 Michelle

The intro to this book makes it sound like we are going back to the beginning of the people being exiled.  It says it is from their Babylonian exile and restoration during the reign of their last 5 kings.  As I read this chapter, it made me think of those we call mediums, psychics, clairvoyants, etc.  I only say that because it goes into what Jeremiah sees when God is talking to him, for example, he says I see a pot that is boiling, it is tilting toward us from the north, and then God explains what that means.  So how do we know who God is speaking through?  The other thing I got from this reading is that God tells him that he will be with him and rescue him even though he is going to pronounce judgements on his people.

This psalm sounds like he is speaking to others about God even though at the beginning it sounds like a prayer for God to be with him.  In verse 4 it says to lie down, search your hearts and be silent.  Like this is when you will hear from God and that God brings calm and safety.

That's an interesting thought as those comments did seem about out of left field. God seems to have given Jeremiah wisdom, although he seems a bit hesitant to accept what God is giving him.

I agree it seems to begin with him asking God to answer his prayers, but then moves into him telling others how they need to place their faith and trust in God.
