Day 386 - Jeremiah 16-17 & Psalm 14

 Julie

God continues to explain how he is going to punish these people with famine, sword and death. From the perspective that I saw he plans to completely wipe them out. He then explains how he will restore Israel and Jeremiah prays for his own deliverance. The Lord then reminds him that they need to keep the sabbath.

He seems to be questioning why fools that say there is no God continue to do so once they see what happens to others.

I think you nailed that one.  There is a section that stands out when God tells Jeremiah not to have children or a wife as he will wipe them out as well.  It seems as if he is going to keep Jeremiah and get rid of literally everyone else.  Not sure if I am reading this correctly.  It also sounds like God will send hunters to find all his people, no matter their location, to bring them back or destroy them as well.  The devotional focuses on verse 9-10, The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.  Who can understand it? "I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve."

This psalm seems to coincide with the reading.  I know it's not the same time but it reads as though it is.  David is saying that all have turned away from God and become corrupt and that God looks down to see if there are any who seek him.
