Jesus is trying to tell the disciples about his coming death and resurrection, but they do not seem to want to understand and are afraid to ask him what he means. He is also explaining what makes us bound for heaven. He reminds the rich man that he must follow the commandments, but he also asks him to give up everything and follow him. I think that is one of the hardest things for people to do is to give up what they have to do something God is asking. The is a fear in the unknown instead of trusting that all will be ok. He also reminds us that we need to let go of the things that cause us to sin.
This proverb seems to fit with part of what Jesus was talking about above in that we need to follow the path of righteousness and stay on the straight and narrow. We need to remove ourselves from sin.

What stood out to me in this reading is when Jesus says we should receive God like children. I know it's not said that way but that is what it sounds like to me. We should be like children and receive God openly and without hesitation. The devotional, coincidentally, is about these very verses. It says, "the kingdom of God belongs to people with childlike faith".
The end of this proverb tells us how we are to maintain righteousness on our path and how to follow along according to God's command in all things.
