Paul is going into all of these places knowing that he will be persecuted. However, he is content because he understands that he is working for the Holy Spirit. The last part of the reading it sounds like he has been in Ephesus awhile so he is telling them that he has been a good steward of the Word of God and in sharing with them and that they must continue on this journey. I believe that is what he is saying here.
David is asking God to continue showering his steadfast love with those that are righteous and asks God to protect him from becoming like those around him that are doing wrong.

This reading goes through Paul's time in Ephesus and the persecution he has received along his journey. At the end Paul prays with them and they are grieved by him saying that they will not see him again, implying that he will perish before there is a chance of his return.
There is no fear of God before the eyes of the wicked. They are quick to flatter themselves. David goes on to say that God's love reaches the heavens and how God's love is priceless and unfailing.
