These verses tell us that life is unpredictable and the explanation says that it's giving us council in that unpredictability. I think that it is also telling us that through this we cannot predict how God will respond or work in our lives and we are not supposed to know. While it doesn't say trust I believe that it implies it.
The Lord knows us and knows our hearts. We are wonderful creations that he takes care of and protects us.

I agree it says that life is unpredictable and that we should not keep all our eggs in one basket so to speak. It also seems to say that in that unpredictability, we should not be idle, since we do not know what will succeed or fail, we must do many things. And that we are not meant to understand the work of God.
The Lord knows all and sees all. He knows our thoughts before they are formed and knows the ways of our hearts. We cannot flee from his presence as he is with us always, guiding us even when we feel he is not. We cannot hide from God.
