Remember God as he will judge our decisions...I think that is what this is saying. The explanation says that this is a metaphorical description of the aging process and then life ceases and we return to God.
This psalm is asking God to protect us from the evil and the wicked in the world. This could be a good prayer for the way things are going right now.

This is saying to me that we are to know God in our youth so that we can carry that knowledge with us throughout our lives. That we are to teach our children the Lord so that when trouble comes to them in adulthood, they will be able to handle it and know that God is with them.
This does sound like a prayer of protection from evil and evil doers.
