Day 393 - Jeremiah 27-28 & Psalm 21

 Michelle

In this reading it sounds like God is telling the people if they do not serve the king of Babylon, then he will destroy them with plague, sword, and famine.  It sounds like the prophets are still prophesying lies to all the people.  God also says he will bring back all the things back to his house.  I am a little confused about the yoke though.  It says Hananiah broke the yoke from Jeremiah and then is told because of that he will be given an iron yoke.  But I am not understanding this.

The psalm seems to be talking about how the king exalts in the Lord and due to that God has given him the desires of his heart.  It made me think that if our leaders throughout time focused more on God than on themselves and earthly things, that the people would follow and have a good example to follow.  But when people come into power they are overcome with greed instead.

Julie

If I am understanding this correctly the breaking of the yoke was just Hananiah prophesying contradictions to Jeremiah's prophecies. So God puts Hananiah to death.

The Lord will handle all of our enemies.
