Angels are sent to carry out God's wrath on these people and then God's spirit departs from the temple. I am not really sure what else to say about this as it was a bit difficult to really understand the meaning behind some of the explanations.
This sounds like a prayer of repentance, asking God's forgiveness and saving grace.

My bible says it was 6 men called to carry out the wrath of God on those that did not have a mark on them from the man in linen, who was told to mark those that grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are going on. It says that the sin of the people is exceedingly great, and the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice. Chapter 10 tells of the cherubim and mostly describes it. I can't quite picture this thing and it is confusing to me as I don't understand it at all for some reason.
I agree, this sounds like a prayer of repentance. David is asking God to forgive all his transgressions and once he is cleansed, he asks to hear joy and gladness.
