Daniel is brought before the new king to interpret writing on the wall. He tells the king that he has failed to continue to honor God as his father did and has instead taken items from the house of the Lord and used them in vain. He tells the king that that Lord is going to take his kingdom from him and give it to others. Later that evening the king is killed.
This psalm asks for God to rescue the weak and needy.

I am not sure how we got from Nebachadnezzar to his son. But, yes, it sounds like the queen advised to have Daniel interpret his dream as well. And after doing so, he did not change, so he was killed and someone else took over.
The psalm does seem to be asking that and chastising the other "gods" since the people were following them.
