"...we live by faith, not by sight" While we live in the body and are away from the Lord we live by faith or we should be living by faith. Once we are in the presence of the Lord we will be home. We need to show that we lived in the way God intended when we enter the gates of heaven.
David is praising and thanking God for all that he has done for him. He does this frequently in the psalms and I think it serves as a reminder that we need to remember to thank and praise God for all that he has done.

I think your summary is spot on. I was thinking the exact same thing. We must live as if we are with God already, so that when we meet him for judgment, there are no surprises.
That's a good point. He does praise God over and over, even when he is wishing bad things on his enemies, he thanks God for what he has done for him. Definitely a reminder for us.
