Day 307 - Job 32-33 & Psalm 121

 Julie

It is nice to see someone stand up for Job against those that are speaking ill of him. However, I am a little confused of Elihu's rebuke of Job. Maybe I am not understanding completely...I thought that God chose Job for this test with satan because he was considered a righteous man...although I am sure a flawed man. So it confused me as to why Elihu is rebuking the fact that Job was trying to justify himself to those that were talking negatively about him. Is Elihu trying to tell him that if he is truly following God, regardless of what is happening to him, that he doesn't have to justify himself to anyone except God? Basically, a reminder that the only opinion that matters and the only one that we truly answer to is God?

A psalm telling us that our help comes from the Lord and nowhere else.

I too am confused by this chapter.  I couldn't tell if he was standing up for Job or not based on what he was saying.  And yes I also thought he was chosen because he is righteous.  So it seems that Elihu is chastising Job for justifying himself.  I don't really understand what is happening here.

I got the same from the psalm.  God is always watching over us.
