Day 320 - Ecclesiastes 5:8 - 6 & Psalm 134

 Julie

The beginning of these verses was interesting. It seems that the author is saying that we need to remember that those in power are ruled by God. Even those doing evil or wrong were still put in place by God. It doesn't specifically say it that way, but I wonder if that is part of what they are getting at here. The rest seems like a reminder that wealth is not what brings happiness and that sometimes it steers us in the wrong direction. Chapter 6 confused me some. Although looking at it...there is an evilness in man and I think that we have seen that a lot throughout what we have read up to this point.

Lift your hands and praise the Lord.

I struggled with this reading a little but your explanation makes sense.  It does tell us that everyone is touched by God in some way and that those with wealth are not always as happy as we may think.  Chapter 6 felt again a little like we are speaking in the negative sense.  Like it's all meaningless, what's the point of having wisdom, everything has already been named.  The last few sentences are questioning.  Who knows what is good because time passes like a shadow and then we are gone.

The psalm seems to be a praise to the Lord saying lift your hands and praise.
